Always Room for One More written by Sorche Nic Leodhas and illustrated by Nonny Hogrogian was a 1966 Caldecott Medal Recipient.
Exposition: Lachie MacLachlan lives with wife and ten children, in a small cabin in the heather of Scotland.
Conflict: Lachie is kindhearted and invites everyone that comes by to stay in his small house.
Rising Action: It is storming and Lachie shares everything that he and his family have with every stranger that comes to his door, saying that there is room for one more.
Climax: Lachie invites so many people into his small home with his large family that the roof and walls come crashing down.
Falling Action: Everyone looks about and see that Lachie and his family has no home. They all start crying and carrying on.
Resolution: The strangers that have been invited into Lachie’s home look around and say that they would build a new home that is twice as big. That way, there will always be room for one more in Lachie MacLachland's home.
The book is delightfully illustrated. The illustrations bring a sense of lightheartedness and welcoming as the story unfolds. The rhyming structure and sing song words of the Scottish Folk Song brings joy to the heart as it is read aloud.
